Services offered by Sands

Sands, both local groups and the National office are here to help when your baby dies during your pregnancy or around the time of birth.

Sands is a national self-help organisation which has been registered as a charity since 1981. To read the full history of Sands click here to visit the National Site.

Sands is here to help anyone affected by the death of a baby: mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings, friends, carers. We offer support for bereaved people in many different ways.

There is no set pattern of support in these circumstances. Perhaps you will want to talk to someone whose baby has also died, or find out about the practical things that need to be done. You may want to meet other bereaved parents in a small group, or you may not want to do anything straight away.

Sands will continue to offer support for as long as you need it.

Living with Loss Meetings

These get-togethers are for everyone - Mums, Dads, grandparents and friends: anyone who has suffered because of the loss of your baby.
We do realise how daunting it is to come along for the first time; we've all experienced that feeling of stepping into the unknown. But - we are all just like you and have found tremendous comfort and support in being in a place where talking about our babies is not a taboo subject.

We are very informal: you can talk if you want or sit and listen. It's entirely up to you. We also hold a small library of books, videos and other materials which you may borrow and many people find helpful.

Parenting our living children through grief

This purpose of this meeting is to explore what its like to parent (a) living child(ren) while we are still grieving ourselves as parents - the issues and the challenging times. Children deal with grief in their own way - different from adults - and as parents, this may raise lots of questions. We hope parents may help one another find the strength to support the children through their grief.......to find ways to help siblings remember our precious babies through the years........ This group aims to give beareaved parents who have living children an opportunity to share their experience and support each other.
